A Simple Maintenance Routine
A floor mat only protects the building while it can still hold dirt and water. Once it is saturated, dirt walks straight past it. A regular routine keeps entrance mats working and makes them last longer:
| Mat type | Daily | Weekly | Periodic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carpet and wiper entrance mats | Vacuum in both directions | Spot clean stains | Hot-water extraction; dry fully before reuse |
| Rubber and PVC scraper mats | Shake out or sweep | Hose down and scrub with neutral cleaner | Check edges and connectors for wear |
| Aluminum recessed systems | Vacuum the inserts | Lift or roll back to clean the well | Replace worn inserts; check drainage |
| Anti-fatigue and drainage mats | Remove debris | Wash with degreaser where oil is present | Inspect for compression and curling |
Always let mats dry before putting them back, avoid harsh solvents on rubber and PVC, and replace mats that have curled edges or lost their pile.
