Before You Install
Most installation problems come from the floor, not the mat. Before laying any commercial mat, check that the sub-floor is clean, dry, level and free of loose material. For recessed entrance systems the well depth must match the mat height so the finished surface sits flush with the surrounding floor; a raised edge is a trip hazard. Loose-laid mats need beveled ramp edges on every exposed side, and modular tiles should be acclimatized at room temperature for 24 hours before they are connected.
- Recessed systems – measure the mat well at several points, allow for the frame, and confirm drainage at the bottom of the well for outdoor or vestibule areas.
- Surface-laid mats – use ramp edges or snap tracks so trolleys and wheelchairs can pass, and keep the mat away from door swings.
- Adhesive and tape – use the adhesive recommended for the mat backing and the floor type, and follow the curing time before opening the area to traffic.
